BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Down Walkerton Capitals
The BDO Dunwoody  Atom BB team continued their winning streak making it four in a row as they beat the Walkerton Capitals last week in an away game on December 9th.  This Atom BB team has been picking up momentum as the season progresses,  and the fans are starting to see some real teamwork from this young team as well as some confidence and patience in their play.

From the moment the puck dropped at the Walkerton CC, the Saugeen Shores team was on the offensive creating multiple opportunities for scoring.  Cam Lightfoot on a line Hunter Cannon and Jack Kozelenko created some scoring chances with two excellent drives to the net but came up short when it came to getting the puck across the line.  Jacob Condy played at twice his size (as usual), digging the pucks out of the corners and feeding them to the net.

In a lucky early break, Walkerton took the lead in the game with a low shot saved by goalie Dex Wasylishyn but then poked in after a scramble in front of the net.  This galvanized the Storm into some furious attacks including one great play by Riley Johnson on a great pass by Shawn Charlebois that left the net ringing as he cranked the puck off the post, top right.

The start of the second period  saw the Storm coming out strong with the Walkerton net firmly in their sights.  Hale Schoneck, on a slick pass from his defensive partner, Euan Mackintosh, capitalized on a Walkerton line change and went end to end, deking three Caps and posting his package to the back of the net.

The second Storm goal came minutes later in a classic scramble that left the crowd breathless and unsure what had happened.  After another attack on net the puck slid past the goal and Isaac Fewster grabbed it and flipped it high back in front to Cam Lightfoot who took two quick shots but was unable to put it in.  However his second rebound was picked up by Ben Lalonde who made sure to put a little peanut butter on the puck as he jammed it into the back of the net.

Sam Maksymyk and Nic Matheson (no strangers to offensive play)  kept Walkerton away from the Storm net most of the period with some excellent defense.  In the one time the Caps got through, Dex Wasylishyn showed us how it was done with a great save on a Walkerton breakaway.

Going into the third period the Storm were riding an emotional high with a 2-1 lead.  Strong chances ensued from the Hunter Canon, Jack Kozelenko, Cam Lightfoot line as they pummelled the Caps, keeping them on their heels.  The third goal was scored by Lightfoot on a super rush from the centre line all the way to the goal - a strong shot past the goalie’s blocker.

Lightfoot featured again in the final goal with a picture perfect pass to Dane Heipel who would have made Sid the Kid weep with his sweet back-hander that twisted the twine in the top right corner.

The final bell came when Lightfoot rang the cross-bar with another sweet backhander, but it bounced out leaving the final score at 4 to 1 for the Saugeen Shores BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team over the Walkerton Capitals.  Way to go Storm!
