Bantam Girls C Team Crowned WOAA Champs
The Saugeen Shores Storm Bantam Girls C team (sponsored by Heather's Poodle Care and Allan's Fireside Grill) recently competed in the regional WOAA Championship tournament. Their first game was against Mildmay and knowing that the format was single knockout, every game was extremely crucial.

Storm came out strong but was unable to put any pucks past the Mildmay goaltender until the second period. Sam Harvie corralled a Zoe Mackintosh pass and blasted a screened shot towards the net, which found its way over the goal line putting Storm up 1-0.  The Storm team continued their domination highlighted by the persistent fore-checking of Samantha Albright, but was constantly frustrated by not showing any results on the scoreboard.  However, midway through the third period, Storm finally added to their lead.  After receiving the puck from Mackintosh, Rayne Crosetta gave a nice feed to Delaney Brown who fired a low bullet shot to the back of the net giving Storm the 2-0 win.

The Bantam Girls C team played a tough Markdale squad in their next game.  Storm opened the scoring when Sabrina Goegan gave Teila Becker a perfect pass out front, and Becker made no mistake as she whistled a hard shot past the Markdale goalie giving Storm a 1-0 lead.  From the ensuing face-off, Storm added to their lead seven seconds later when Brown scored on a nice individual effort making it 2-0.  Storm’s defensive core made up of Kira Bollen, Emma DeBoer, Molly Halpin, and Sydney Liddle shut the Markdale team down the rest of the game.  Storm’s Jocelyn Parker had some great scoring chances but was unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal.  The game ended with Storm winning 2-0, and a berth to the championship match.

Storm’s opponent for WOAA Championship game was a very strong Georgian Shores team.  As expected, this game turned out to be a defensive battle.  Although Storm had the edge in shots, both team’s goalies played great and couldn’t be beat.  At the end of three periods of hockey the score remained tied at 0-0, and the game needed sudden-death overtime to decide the winner. With the Saugeen Shores fans chanting in the stands, Storm’s Halpin went on an end-to-end rush and scored top corner for the 1-0 victory.  Storm goalie Bryanna ‘Red’ Cobean was awarded her third shutout and actually never let in one goal the entire tournament.  The Saugeen Shores Storm team was officially crowned the Bantam C Girls WOAA Champions.
