Bantam Girls C Team Wins Tournament
The Saugeen Shores Storm Bantam Girls C team (sponsored by Heather's Poodle Care and Allan's Fireside Grill) recently travelled to Woodstock to participate in a Rep hockey tournament.

Storm played Petrolia in their first game, which turned out to be defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless until the last minute of the game.  Rayne Crosetta was ultimately able to break the tie when she scored a goal mouth scramble tally to give Storm the 1-0 win.  Storm’s defensive core (made up of Sydney Liddle, Molly Halpin, Emma DeBoer, and Kira Bollen) played their typical rock solid game, and DeBoer was named game MVP for winning every battle along the boards.

Storm’s next contest was against the host team of Woodstock, in which the girls released some pent up offensive frustration by scoring five unanswered goals to win the game 5-0.  Storm’s goal scorers were Sam Harvie, Jocelyn Parker, Zoe Mackintosh, Teila Becker, and Delaney Brown.  Brown asserted her leadership skills as the team Captain and was awarded the game MVP.  Goaltender Bryanna ‘Red’ Cobean recorded her second shutout of the tournament.

Storm faced a strong Waterloo team for their third game of round-robin play.  The winner of this game determined which team qualified for the gold medal game.  Storm jumped out to early lead when Parker buried a perfect pass from Becker making it 1-0.  Soon after, Waterloo was finally able to solve Cobean who let in her first goal of the tournament, and tied it up 1-1.  The tie was extremely short-lived as Sabrina Goegan broke down the left side from the ensuing face-off and scored putting Storm back in lead by 2-1.  Some tenacious fore-checking by Mackintosh led to her potting a goal with only one second left in the second period to make it 3-1. Waterloo did not sit back and scored early in the third period making it once again a one-goal game.  But Storm’s defense held on for the remainder of the game, and Brown secured the win with an empty net marker to make it a 4-2 final and a trip to the championship game.  Mackintosh earned the game MVP with her game winning goal.

Storm’s opponent for the gold medal game was St. Clair who was also undefeated in the tournament.  St. Clair definitely came to play hard and hemmed the Storm team in their own end during the opening minutes of the game.  Storm’s goalie Cobean made some highlight reel saves to keep St. Clair from scoring what appeared to be surefire goals.  However, midway through the first period, Brown notched her third goal of the tourney with a great individual effort to put Storm ahead 1-0.  Both teams then exchanged good scoring chances with the St. Clair goalie turning away numerous shots from Sam Albright and stymied clear-cut breakaways from Parker and Mackintosh.  Once again, Storm’s dependable defensive play and solid goaltending held St. Clair off the scoresheet to preserve the 1-0 victory.  The Saugeen Shores Storm Bantam Girls C team has won the tournament championship title. Goaltender Cobean was named game MVP with three shut-outs and only two goals against in the entire tournament.

The Storm Bantam Girls C team, with a current team winning record of 23-6-3, are now preparing for the upcoming playdowns in their quest to qualify for the Provincial final tournament.
