Pee Wee Girls Take Silver in Year End Tournament
The Port Elgin Lions Club / Port Elgin Veterinary Clinic Storm Pee Wee Girls closed out their 2010/11 campaign this past weekend (Mar 26-27) with their year-end tournament held in Meaford and Thornbury.

The Storm showed their grit in two very close games against two very good C Level rep teams in the first round. The Storm managed to knock off the Upper Maitland Mustangs 3-2 on Saturday morning, and then went on to beat the Blyth/Brussels Bulldogs 2-1 later that day.

The two wins put the Storm through to the finals on Sunday, where they met the Bruce Peninsula Wild.  The two teams were evenly matched and well known to each other, having played each other a total of five times over the course of the regular season.  As expected the game was tightly played with very few scoring chances.  The Wild did manage to squeak one past Storm goaltender Sarah Underwood midway through the second on an unfortunate deflection and it turned out that was all they needed.  An empty net goal in the final minute of the third secured the Wild’s 2-0 victory, and the gold medal.

Once again the Storm girls put on an exciting show for the fans and should be very proud of their accomplishments during this successful 2010/11 season. They close out the year with a 9W–7L-1T regular season record and enjoyed some success in all of the four tournaments they attended this year.

A great big thanks goes out to the coaching staff / on ice assistants: Paul Martin, Steve Miller, Chad Woods, Barry Hall, Ken Newstead, Shannon Ferguson, Linda Bester and Tracy Martin. Thanks for another great year!!
