Saugeen Shores Midget AE Storm Win SilverStick Championship
The Legault's Independent Midget AE defeated home-town Collingwood 2-0 to capture the Regional SilverStick Championship on Sunday, October 25th, 2009.

The Storm went 4-1-0 at the tournament including a 1-0 win against Listowel in the semi-final.

In game 1, played on Oct 23rd, the Storm earned a convincing 6-1 victory against Collingwood # 2. Russ MacMillan scored on a shot from the low slot on a pass from Zach Walker and Tom Carolan to give the Storm the lead. Jacob Roote popped home goal # 2 taking a pass from the corner from Sam Vecchies and Jeff Sinclair. Vecchies fired home a one-timer after a low cycle and pass to the slot on a set up from Roote and MacMillan for a 3-0 lead. Tyler D'Angelo followed with his own one-timer from the slot on a set up by Darren Kimewon and Cody Charlebois. Jeff Sinclair tallied goal # 5 with a blast from the point after a set up by Roote and MacMillan. Sam Vecchies deflected a shot from the point (off the stick of Jacob Roote) and a pass from Daniel Kimewon. Brody Farrish earned the win in goal and Jacob Roote was awarded player of the game in acknowledgement of his 4 point effort.

The Storm then faced St. Mary's and squeaked out a 3-2 come from behind win to get to game three. Brannt Hall scored on a screen shot after a face off inside the blueline. Daniel Kimewon went end to end after taking a pass from Hall to tie the game at 2 apiece. Shorthanded for the final two minutes, the Storm controlled the puck with passing down low in the offensive zone, and with only :34 seconds remaining on the clock, Sam Vecchies scored on a set up from Zach Walker and Russ MacMillan. Alex Wunderlich was strong in goal, and Daniel Kimewon earned player of the game honours for his defensive play.

Mooretown was the opponent for game # 3. The Storm scored 3 goals, all rebound scrambles, however this was not enough as they dropped a 5-3 decision. Goal scorers were Jacob Roote (assists to Brannt Hall & Cody Charlebois), Mike DeBoer (assisted by Brannt Hall) and Jacob Roote (assists to Jeff Sinclair and Russ MacMillan). Brody Farrish was strong in goal, and Cass Walden earned player of the game for his defensive efforts.

The Storm earned a 1-0 shutout victory in the semi-final against Listowel; what some cosidered the best game of the tournament. Tanner Beange popped home the only marker of the game, an unassisted tally on a scramble in front of the net. Alex Wunderlich earned player of the game honours for his stellar goaltending.

The Storm returned to face hometown Collingwood for the Championship on Sunday, and came home with a 2-0 shutout victory in a hard fought, penalty filled contest. Cass Walden rifled a shot from the right point on a 5 on 3 powerplay for goal number one (and what would prove to be the winner), with assists to Darren Kimewon and Jeff Sinclair. Tom Carolan added an insurance marker from the left point after taking a pass from Jacob Roote with only 3 minutes left in the 2nd period. Strong passing, aggressive forechecking, defensive zone play proved to be the successful formula for the storm in this game. Tyler D'Angelo earned player of the game for his backchecking, and honourable mention goes to Alex Wunderlich for a game changing glove save on a breakaway and exceptional goaltending for the entire contest as he earned the shutout.

The Storm put into action all of the drills they have practiced, the goaltending was fabulous and the team pulled together when needed to earn the Championship and a berth in the International SilverStick scheduled to be played in Pelham on January 7-10, 2010.
Congratulations Storm!
