The Power Workers Union Training Inc. and Bruce County Physiotherapy Peewee Storm #1 Win Championship on the Consolation side in the Drayton Invitational Tournament on January 10, 2009
The Storm traveled to Drayton to participate in an invitational tournament and came home with the Consolation Championship after 3 very exciting games on January 10, 2009.   East Lambton struck first with 3:35 on the clock in the 1st period, however the Storm answered less than a minute later to tie the game on an unassisted marker by Blane Roote. At the end of one frame the score remained deadlocked at 1 goal apiece. Similar to period one, East Lambton struck first, this time just :30 seconds into the period. At the 6:21 mark Ben Walker blasted a slapshot on a pass from Roote to knot the game at 2 goals apiece and this is how the period finished. With both teams equally matched and trading numerous scoring chances, Lambton scored the go-ahead goal at the 7:07 mark of the 3rd. Try as they might, the Storm just couldn’t buy a bounce and went to the dressing room on the losing side of the ledger.

In game #2, the Storm faced-off against St. Georges in what would be another nail-biter between 2 very evenly matched teams. Both teams displayed great effort and determination in a very entertaining game. The first period remained scoreless (with Storm goalie Olivier Caudle on top of his game), and St. Georges finally opened the scoring with only 3:47 left on the clock in the 2nd period. The Storm, to their credit, kept their composure and continued to give it their all. Finally at the 6:16 mark of the 3rd they were rewarded as Josh Stewart scored on the wrap-around after taking a pass from Harrison Williams. Both teams frantically attempted to net the winner, however it was not to be and at the end of regulation play, the game remained deadlocked 1-1. A sudden death overtime period was required with each team icing just 4 skaters.  With 1:18 left on the clock, Harrison Williams rifled a wrist shot off the post on a solo rush to win the game and advance the Storm to the consolation final.

Game #3 featured another evenly matched contest where every bounce counted. Once again, the opposition struck first less than 3 minutes into play in the first period for the early lead. The Storm kept forcing the play however, and were rewarded for their efforts at the 3:09 mark as Ben Walker fired one home after taking a pass from Coby Stanley.  At the end of 1 period the score was 1-1. After trading numerous chances and end-to-end play for much of the 2nd period the Storm took the lead as Taylor Cameron scored an unassisted goal. This was to be the only goal of the 2nd frame as the Storm held on to a 1 goal lead. The 3rd period featured all out effort by both teams in a very entertaining and hard fought display of effort and determination, as well as excellent goaltending at both ends of the ice. With only :38 seconds remaining on the clock, Harrison Williams scored on a set up from Coby Stanley and Brandon Vokes to give the Storm (and their fans) some insurance and breathing room. The Storm proudly accepted the Consolation Championship Trophy for a job well done.

Way to go Storm! An excellent display of effort and sportsmanship, both on and off the ice that made your parents proud.

Next action for the Storm will see them travel to Tara for a game against Arran-Elderslie on Wed. Jan 14th for a 6:30 start, and then they will host Wiarton on Saturday, January 17th at 3:30 pm at the Plex.
