PeeWee A/E Storm take Game One in Mitchell

On Tuesday the Ralph’s PeeWee A/E travelled to Mitchell for game one of a best 2 out of 3 semi-final WOAA series.

The long wait didn’t seem to hurt the team as Willy had the boys game ready.
The Storm were first on the scoreboard with a goal just 31 seconds after the opening faceoff when Cole Farrish converted a pass from Ryan Hopcraft. Stephen Pilar added his own less than a minute later with Justin Lamont getting the assist. The Storm then had a bit of penalty trouble and the first period ended with the Storm leading the Meteors 2-0.
The second period started off the same as the first when Jake Dawson passed to Hopcraft from the faceoff and Hopcraft went in on a solo rush to score on the short side 27 seconds into the period. A shot from the point by Wyatt Lablance was deflected in by Troy Contois for the Storm’s 4th goal. Aaron Cruchley made a key glove save on a 3-on-one to keep his shutout drive alive. The Storm then killed a 5-on-3 penalty to keep Mitchell off the board. Taylor Schihl was then sent in all alone by Charlie Wilkinson to put the Storm up 5-0. The Storm closed out the second period when Contois scored his second of the game after he took a pass from Jesse Cannon and walked out from behind the net.
The Storm headed into the third period with a comfortable 6-0 lead. Halfway through the period Wilkinson scored stick side after a nice reverse move in front of the Mitchell net. Pilar and Dawson both picked up assists on the play. Cruchley’s bid for a shutout was spoiled when Mitchell was able to score while on a 5 minute power play. The drive back to Saugeen Shores was a lot shorter with the 7-1 Storm victory.
Game 2 in the series is set for Saturday at 3:30 at the Plex.
