Peewee's up one game on Collingwood
The Saugeen Shores Legion Branch 340 (Port Elgin) Storm Peewee 'A's took a one game to none lead in their best-of-five Peewee BB OMHA Preliminary series with a 4-1 win against the Collingwood Blackhawks....

LEGION PEEWEES TAKE THE OPENER OVER COLLINGWOOD

 

The Saugeen Shores Legion Branch 340 (Port Elgin) Storm Peewee 'A's took a one game to none lead in their best-of-five Peewee BB OMHA Preliminary series with a 4-1 win against the Collingwood Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon at the Southampton Coliseum. 

 

Saugeen Shores goal scorers were Ben Van Ooteghem with two(2) goals and singles by Riley Robertson and Matthew Teschke.  Collingwood’s goal was scored by Isaac McGladdery. 

 

After a scoreless first period, the Storm went ahead 2-0 in the second period on a pair of Ben Van Ooteghem goals.  The first one on the power-play was set up by Matthew Teschke and Luke Czuczman and the second one for Ben was at even strength and was assisted by Luke Czuczman.  Just before the period ended, Collingwood scored their lone goal to narrow the gap to 2-1.

 

In the third, the Legion Peewee built on their lead.  Riley Robertson scored an unassisted power-play goal after taking the puck end-to-end to make it 3-1 and Matthew Teschke then finished the scoring with assists going to Luke Czuczman and Josh Caley.

 

Luke Schmalz was strong in goal for the Storm and made some key saves especially during the scoreless first period.

 

Game 2 in the series is next Sunday afternoon in Collingwood.  The next home game for the Storm is game 3 of the best-of-five set for Saturday January 31st at 6:15 pm at the ‘Plex in Port Elgin.
