Bayshore Broadcast reporting on the need for additional ice pad
Bayshore Broadcasting has reported on the delegation that took place on February 23rd in front of council.
During this delegation, Becky Smith, SSMHA OMHA Registrar, spoke in front of members and council advocating for a third ice pad that would help to support the future of minor hockey in our community.
Bayshore's article reports on Becky's presentation as she states “All of the user groups have come together, and we’ve had a few meetings now because we feel like the report was not an accurate representation of what’s happening in Saugeen Shores.”
Becky also communicated that “The context in the report about hockey declining in Canada is not an accurate reflection of what’s happening here in our community. There are many user groups that were not considered in the report, which significantly understates the number of users we have here.”
During the council meeting, many council members responded to Becky's presentation, including positive statements made by Councillor Dave Myette, Councillor Rachel Stack, Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt, Councillor John Divinski, Deputy Mayor Diane Huber, and Councillor Bud Halpin.
Bayshore concludes their article explaining that "Council thanked Smith and other ice users in attendance. Mayor Luke Charbonneau expressed optimism that staff and user groups could work towards a plan for getting a third ice pad sooner than 2034."
