Southampton Foodland/Carson Plumbing Novices Lose In Finals
Submitted By Ray Hall on Friday, March 25, 2011
The Saugeen Shores Novice LL Team #1 lost the deciding game for the WOAA North Division Championship to the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs 5 - 2 in Paisley Wednesday night.

This game was not as one-sided as the score might suggest. The first period was scoreless with good opportunities at both ends of the ice.  Hard board work by Saugeen Shores Braydyn Root freeing the puck to Blake Shields who came up with the first goal of the game at 8:09 of the second period.  With the period winding down, Arran-Elderslie was assessed a slashing penalty but being a bit too offensive minded with the man-advantage, Saugeen gave up a short-handed goal at 2:44 and the game was tied.  However, just one minute later Saugeen Shores was given a body checking penalty and responded with a short-handed goal of their own by Anthony Sarauz assisted by Blake and went into the third period with a 2 – 1 lead.  Another penalty, this time for tripping to Saugeen Shores resulted in a power play goal for Arran-Elderslie at the 9:12 mark of the third and the game was tied at 2. The game had overtime written all over it until Arran-Elderslie broke the ice with 3:28 remaining. Saugeen Shores continued to apply pressure but couldn’t pot the equalizer. Needing reinforcements, goaltender Jolina McLean came to the bench for an extra attacker with over a minute and a half left but Arran-Elderslie made good with two empty net goals making it the final 5 to 2 score.  Similar to the second game of the series when our attackers missed on their chances when in all alone, this game also haunted us in similar fashion. But we extend congratulations to the Champion Arran-Elderslie Ice-Dogs and in true sportsmanship both teams mingled and posed for group pictures together. Priceless.
