Will the REAL Atom AE's please stand up?
Submitted By Kathryn Scatterty Dereski on Monday, February 15, 2010
And STAND UP THEY DID in this weekend's playoff action against Howick and BCH.  Tibor's / Rosner's Atom AE's did not disappoint in roundrobin play this weekend, first in Southampton vs. Howick, followed by a hard fought nail biter in Hensall Sunday night vs. BCH.

Similar to previous matchups against Howick, STORM had to get down to positional play in the first period in order to get something going, and going it went.  Late in the first STORM got on the board with a fantastic goal by Aidan Akerman, assisted by Colton Heipel and Coleton McNabb.  STORM"s defensive line had a best friend in Goalie Kenneth Bollen who could not be beat, and achieved a shutout in a hard fought game.  Malcolm Mcintosh was on fire again tonight, with some great hustle, passing, and a hat trick to boot, assisted by Duncan Wilkinson, Aidan Akerman and Coleton McNabb respectively.  Defencemen Nolan Dereski/Duncan Wilkinson, Kelly Robertson/Jake Olinskie put in a tremendous effort keeping the offense at bay and clearing their zone.  Akerman, pushed down the ice 3 times in the 2nd and 3rd periods, and in the third took a pass off the boards from defenceman Nolan Dereski and drove it home for his second goal of the game.  Coleton McNabb was on the puck at all times, supported by his line who stood out with some impressive backchecking, keeping Storm in control of the scoreboard.  A great game played by forwards Emma, Owen, Brayden, JD and Dylan.  And CONTRATULATIONS KENNETH ON YOUR SHUTOUT!    Final score 5-0 for STORM, who took command of their game early and drove it home.

February  - On the Road Again.......
Happy Valentine's Day.  The Storm heads south, destination Hensall last night to face BCH in game 4 of roundrobin play.  Hot off the heels of the Howick game, the team came out with all cylinders firing.  First period action did not disappoint the fans, with both teams hot to get on the scoreboard.  Cameron Plante played net for the STORM and was beat with a top shelf shot late in the first giving BCH that desired lead.  With just 1 minute left in the first, Brayden Horseman received the puck from defenceman Nolan Dereski to tie the game after 10.  Just 11 seconds into Period 2, BCH found top corner again, going up by 1.  A cold front blew in for the second period, however it thankfully blew over and we all saw relief in the last period of regular play which was fought hard by both sides.  Despite an injury defenceman Kelly Robertson pushed through and fought off the BCH offence along with partner Jake Olinskie.  Nolan Dereski and Duncan Wilkinson played a strong defensive game and were able to drive the puck out of their zone up to the hungry offensive line.  With just 3:43 left, Emma Vanhaelemeesch, assisted by JD Barnard and Brayden Horseman tied the game at 2.  Into 10 minutes of sudden death they went and an action packed 10 minutes it was.  BCH pressured Storm for the entire OT period, narrowly missing the net on several occasions.  These did not go unanswered however with some exciting STORM action in the opposition's zone.  25 seconds remaining, #15 Malcolm Mcintosh drove to the net and scored the winning goal for Saugeen Shores, ending a hard fought game by all.  Congratulations to BCH on a great game, and way to go Storm.   "It was worth the trip to Hensall".  Next up we're on the road to Listowel Feb 20, followed by a trip to Howick on the 22nd.  Storm and BCH meet again on February 26, 6:45 at the PLEX which should prove to be another exciting game!  Congratulations gang on your solid efforts out there this weekend.
