STORM Passes on A Loss Today in South
Submitted By Kathryn Scatterty Dereski on Saturday, January 09, 2010
Tibor's / Rosner's ATOM AE TEAM passed their way to a win today in a hard fought game versus BCH.  The game lacked nothing as both teams worked hard in a match that remained scoreless until half way through the third period.  The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats with end to end play and close chances for both teams, who were on the hunt to capitalize on any mistakes.

The team clicked and wowed the fans with their passing plays, and a fast paced match led by backchecking, forechecking, shots on net and defensive play.  There are too many highlights to capture in one article so this one's for the parents and fans who were there and enjoyed the excitement! The score ended up 2-0 Storm - a great game to end regular season.
  • Emma Vanhaelemeesch made several beauty cross passes to partner Brayden Horseman who charged down the ice for some added offense
  • Colton Heipel was again on fire, keeping BCH goalie on his toes with multiple shots that didn't quite get through, but goalies beware, he knows where you live................
  • Colton McNabb and Aidan Akerman's wheels and strong forechecking did not go unnoticed.  Coleton's pass to Aidan nearly found the back of the net late in the second.......So close yet still 17 minutes to go!
  • Dylan Pomroy's end to end play in the third, first backchecking to steal the puck from his opponent then carrying it up the to the other end, firing a shot which was saved by a strong BCH goalie.  Still scoreless....
  • Defenseman Duncan Wilkinson driving though the hole and running the puck up the ice several times created multiple scoring chances for STORM.
  • Defenceman Jake Olinskie's hustle against a quick BCH team and strength in front of the net protected the goalies the full 35 minutes.
  • Defenceman Nolan Dereski stole a chance as he broke through BCH's defensive line, took a shot that found the goalie ready, then hustled back to face a strong BCH offensive line.  Dereski took a couple for the team as the D were kept fully occupied for the entire game.
  • Kelly Robertson's recovery at centre ice, re-claiming that puck and driving it down the ice as only she can kept the fans awake during a nailbiter that was anyone's game.  Way to go Kelly!
  • D's best friend today was JD Barnard who helped them out with his forechecking and protection in front of STORM's goalie(s)
The first goal of the game was scored 7 minutes into the third by Malcolm Mcintosh on a sweet pass made by #7 Owen MacKenzie!  The fans could now breathe, for a bit...........
Although the crowd was guessing until the end, the second goal came with just 2 minutes left, on a beautiful play by Dylan Pomroy, assisted by Malcolm Mcintosh, sealing the game at a 2-0 win for STORM.  The shutout was shared by STORM's two goalies Cameron Plante and Kenneth Bollen.

In summary, a tremendous effort put out by both teams and a bit of a nail biter to the end.  A fantastic way to end regular season and a glimpse of things to come in playoffs!  Way to go STORM and thanks to all the fans today who came out to cheer the kids on.  CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK IN PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!
