The Port Elgin Legion Peewee BB Hockey Team Skated to a Solid Victory Against Kincardine
The Storm traveled to Kincardine for an exhibition match on September 29th and earned a solid 9-3 victory for their second win of the season.
Both teams came out of the gate with a strong forechecking game with goalies Luke Schmalz (Storm) and Ethan Primeau (Kincardine) tested early and often. With 4:42 left in the period, the Storm struck first on a goal by Steven Langendoen assisted by Ben Van Ooteghem. Just over two minutes later, Langendoen snapped his 2nd of the night on a set-up from Van Ooteghem and Jake Dawson. At the end of the first period, the Storm held a 2-0 lead.
The 2nd frame was much like the first with both teams hustling and working hard at both ends of the rink. With only 3:14 left to play in the period, Jake Dawson poked his own rebound in after a strong forecheck with helpers credited to Jordan VanHaelemeesch and Austin Henry to put the Storm ahead by 3 goals. Kincardine cut the lead to 2 on a goal by Ethan Long assisted by Sam Culmer and Garrett McFadden. The Storm replied just :12 seconds later as Langendoen notched his 3rd goal of the contest, assisted again by Van Ooteghem and Charlie Wilkinson. At the end of 2 complete periods, the Storm led by a score of 4-1.
Grant Stevens notched a goal just :21 seconds into the 3rd period, assisted by Ethan Long and Jacob Dunlop to cut the lead to 2. The Storm responded at the 12:18 mark on an unassisted goal by Troy Contois, and just :10 seconds later, Eric Langridge went zone to zone and fired a low wrist shot into the open corner to give the Storm a 6-2 lead. Charlie Wilkinson dented the twine on a set-up from Ben Van Ooteghem and Steven Langendoen to put the Storm up by 5 at the 7:53 mark. Kincardine responded just :49 seconds later on a goal by Garrett McFadden, however this would turn out to be the final tally for the home team as goalie Aaron Cruchley slammed the door for the remainder of the game. The Storm tallied two more goals, one by Contois, assisted by Hayden Duplantis and Jake Dawson, and the final marker of the evening by Jordan VanHaelemeesch, assisted by Connor Spear for a final score of 9-3.
Congratulations to players on both teams for a good effort and entertaining display of talent as they begin the season.
