Storm Pee Wee Girls Knock Off Kinucks
Submitted By Sean Fowler on Saturday, January 23, 2010
The Port Elgin Veterinary Clinic / Port Elgin Lions Club Storm Pee Wee Girls earned a much needed 5-3 win in Tiverton Friday night against the Kincardine Kinucks HL team.  The Storm girls had gone winless in the month of December and were hoping for a victory to lift their spirits as they prepare for their last tournament of the season next weekend in Orangeville.

The Tiverton venue has been somewhat of a good luck charm for the girls, and Friday’s game proved to be no exception.

Things got off to a good start as the Storm went up 1-0 early in the first period on a nice goal by Brie Becker (assisted by Christina McLean).   The Kinucks dispelled any false sense of security the Storm may have had however, scoring 3 goals in 41 seconds late in the period.

Coming into the second period down 3-1 the determined Storm team knew they would have to dig in and step it up a notch in order to get back into the game, and that’s just what they did.  Some nice passing from the forward lines combined with some hard work in the corners by the Storm defence led to 3 unanswered second period goals (1 - Heather Kozak, assisted by Brie Bingham; 2- Becker’s second of the game, unassisted; 3- Alexis Martin, unassisted).

Despite a valiant attempt by Kincardine to even the score in the third period, the Storm defence led by goaltender Erica Parker was able close the door and hang on for the win, with Kozak notching her second of the game late in the third as the insurance marker (assisted by Rochelle Salters and Brie Bingham).
