The Midget BB hockey team sponsored by Martin's Bicycle Shop and Martin's Home Hardware is off to a very strong start this year. A tournament win in the Owen Sound Fall Classic was followed with 5 consecutive wins in league play.
The team is led by Rob Houle (Head Coach), Rick Esplen (Asst. Coach), Terry Yourth (Trainer), Greg Primeau (Asst. Trainer) and Paul Whitehead (Manager).
The team travelled to the Owen Sound Fall Classic recently. They started off the round robin with three consecutive ties. (Aurora Tigers 5-5, Port Carling Thunder 1-1, Parry Sound Shamrocks 1-1). A rematch win over Port Carling 6-5 put them into the semi-finals against the St. Catherines Warriors where they responded with a 5-3 win. The finals were a rematch against Parry Sound where they prevailed with an exciting 3-2 victory in overtime. Spencer Primeau led the way with a hat trick in the final game.
Following the successful tournament they began league play with 5 wins in a row. (5-4 over Walkerton, 5-1 over Mitchell, 4-2 over Mildmay, 4-2 over Goderich and 5-3 against Mount Forest).
The team is scheduled to travel to Mooretown in November and Parry Sound in December for tournaments against some OMHA rivals.
Suiting up for the team are Goalie Derek Kouhi, Defencemen Paul Latouf, Martin Pilar, Jake Colley, Jared McCulloch, Dave Whitehead and Cody Ritchie. Forwards are Cory MacDonald, Nick Goreski, Ben Underwood, Brett Esplen, Spencer Primeau, Connor Yourth, Cody Oehm, Matt Ingrey and Aaron George.
The team would like to congratulate the Midget AE's for their successful regional Silver Stick victory and wish them luck in the International tournament.
