Novice LL # 4 - Scotiabank Staves Off Elimination

The Scotiabank Novices turned the tables on the Saugeen Shores Team #1 on Wednesday night at The Coliseum. After being shut-out Monday night, Scotiabank returned the favour registering their own blanking 1 - 0, evening the series at a game a-piece. The deciding match will be played Friday 19 March at 5:45pm in Port Elgin. This was only the 2nd shut-out that Team #1 had against them this year. The first one was coincidently also by a 1 - 0 score and handed out also by Scotiabank during the regular season. Sandwiched between these two playoff games, Scotiabank obtained a much needed practice in which they held a very intense up-tempo session. This benefit almost backfired, as at times the players seemed to be running out of gas but whenever one person would tire their linemates would pick up the slack. All three lines and both sets of defence played a balanced, controlled game. Reed Stauffer played awesome in goal and for his effort was awarded the Digger Award player of the game. Desmond Gouin was recognized as the second star of the game for his excelllent two-way performance as well as scoring the only goal of the game unassisted mid-way through the first period. Next practice is scheduled for Thursday 18th March at 6:30pm in Southampton.

Atom BB - BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Takes Silver in Chris Knott Tournament

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team participated in the Chris Knott Tournament this past weekend and brought home the silver medal in their division. Atom BB had four spirited, well played games and should be very proud of their performance. The action started on Friday afternoon when the Saugeen Shores Storm met up with the Walkerton Capitals in Southampton. The two teams kept the action close throughout the first period and the second began with the teams tied at one a piece. The Storm opened the floodgates early in the middle period and never looked back when the line consisting of Eric Charlebois, Michael Fiegehen, and Will Rickerby racked up four goals during those ten minutes of play. The Storm added one more in the latter half of the third and won the opening game, 6-2. Scoring honors go to the following players; Murray Martin (2), Will Rickerby (2), Michael Fiegehen (1) and Eric Charlebois (1). Providing assists were the following; William Forsyth (2), Charlebois (2), Nick Sutter-Lammie (1), Rickerby (1), Fiegehen (1) and Thomas MacDonald (1).

Novice LL # 4 - Scotiabank Loses Series Opener

Both teams hadn't seen the ice in over a week. The question was who was it going to affect the most. From the result, the break certainly had no ill effect on Team #1 as they skated to a well deserved 3 - 0 win Monday night at The Coliseum. Unfortunately, history again repeated itself for the Scotiabank team when they find themselves away from the ice for a lengthy period. Their success is not determined by one or two individual performances as they draw their energy from one another and it seems when they haven't been involved for awhile it reflects in their balanced play. Having said that, there were still positives: there were scoring chances; there were good defensive plays; goalie Ayden Young did make some fine saves; Drew Besito earned The Digger Award for her strong play with an honourable mention going to Blake Shields for his fine two-way performance; and, the sun is going to come up in the morning. Scotiabank have a practice Tuesday night at 5:30 in Port Elgin with the second game in this 2/3 series scheduled for Wed at 6pm in Southampton.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team won their best of three series against the Hanover Falcons in two games straight to move onto the next round in the Lockridge Division of the WOAA playdowns. Although the Saugeen Shores team had easily handled the Falcons in recent past, this series proved to be closer than expected.

Atom BB - Atom BB Bring Home A Couple of Wins

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team finished off another week of playoff hockey with a couple of wins. Although the week ended off on a positive note, it didn’t start out the same way. The Atom BB team travelled to Durham on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd to face the Durham Huskies. The Huskies wasted no time in setting the Storm team back on its heels, scoring a quick goal during the first minute of play. The Storm never really found a way to recover and their defensive play kept the final score to 4-0 for the Huskies.

Midget Girls - Midget Lady Storm Take 2 of 3 In Road Swing

The Queen's Bar and Grill/Giant Tiger Midget Lady Storm won 2 out of 3 games on the road over the past week. Tuesday, February 16th saw the ladies in Kurtzville, where they dropped a well-contested 3-1 game to the Upper Maitland ladies. Kenzie Bertrand, making a rare appearance out of the pipes, got the only Storm marker, with Abi Martin getting the assist. Saturday, February 20th saw the ladies in a rugged affair against gritty Walkerton, where they left the building with a well-earned 3-1 victory against the Capitals. Nicole Steele notched a pair of Storm goals, with assists going to Natasha Kippers, Katie Little and Abi Martin. The final goal was netted by defenceman Katie Little, with Abi Martin and Sarah Drake assisting. On Sunday, February 21st, the Storm descended on Mount Forest. The Rams came out hard and took a 1-0 lead until late in the second period, when Laura Steele potted a marker to tie the game. Sister Nicole Steele and Maddie Wilkinson assisted on the goal. A "heads-up" one timer from the Storm's Danielle Bennett in the third period proved to be the winning goal, with Maddie Wilkinson and Katie Little setting up the play. The Midget Ladies next contest will be a tournament in Oshawa, where they will battle 20 other Midget Houseleague teams in the hopes of bringing home some hardware.

The Scotiabank Novices ended their round-robin series on a losing note. The Desboro Team #2 were 2 - 0 winners on home ice Saturday afternoon. They were led offensively by their strong forward Riley Cook and defensively by an impresssive performance by their goaltender Jake Hartman. In fact, Jake robbed the Scotiabank shooters on a number of saves considered beyond his years. All three Saugeen Shores lines had their scoring opportunities earned from hard work with Austin Belanger accepting the game's Digger Award for his efforts. With their 2 wins and 3 loss record, the Scotiabank will enter a best of three consolation series with an opponent still to be determined.
