Atom C Girls - Atom Girls Qualify for OWHA Provincial Final Tournament
The Saugeen Shores Storm Atom C Girls (sponsored by Rintoul’s Pool
& Hot Tub and Remax Land Exchange Ltd.) defeated the
Arran Elderslie Ice Dogs two times this week, winning their best of three
playdown series 2 games to 0 and earning a spot in the OWHA Provincial Final
tournament in April.
The first game of the series took place in Port Elgin on Tuesday night (Feb 7). The Storm had enjoyed success in the two regular season meetings between the teams so they were cautiously optimistic at the prospect of meeting the Ice Dogs in the playdowns. Despite a slow start, the outcome was a favourable one as the Storm went on to win game one by a score of 8-1.
The venue switched to Tara on Thursday night (Feb 9) and the Ice Dogs seemed to be a little more comfortable in their home rink. Despite the Storm taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the first period, the game was never out of reach for the Ice Dogs, who held the score at 3-1 for the entire second period. Storm goaltender Marley Scott and her core of six unshakable defence held the Ice Dogs at bay despite some late game pressure.
The end result of Thursday’s game was a 5-2 victory for the Storm and a much deserved appearance in the OWHA Provincial Final Tournament being held in Toronto in April. This will be the first shot at an OWHA title for any of the team members, so players, team staff and parents alike are thrilled about the opportunity.
