09-10 Atom AE - Weekend Play for ATOM AE Exciting - Not Quite Enough
Submitted By Kathryn Scatterty Dereski on Sunday, February 28, 2010
Tibor's / Rosner's ATOM AE Storm finished up WOAA Round Robin Play this weekend with two tight games, first a rematch against BCH, followed up by a repeat game against a strong Drayton team on Saturday afternoon.

Friday night play vs. BCH wasn't full of the fire and energy that STORM have been showing off the last 5 games.  Although the game was close and was full of opportunity, STORM came up a goal short, losing to their opponents 2-1 (BCH's response to our OT win against them in the previous game).  Saturday afternoon the team faced Drayton, who handily defeated the team 7-3 in previous weeks.  Cameron Plante played rock solid the entire game, keeping Storm within a goal of a win the entire 25 minutes, as well as 8 exciting minutes of Overtime Hockey.  First period play ended with Storm on top after dominating much of the play.  Goals were scored by Malcolm Mcintosh (assisted by Owen MacIntosh) and Colton Heipel (assisted by team mates Aidan Akerman and defenceman Duncan Wilkinson).  Second period play was also exciting with Drayton team scoring 7 minutes in, bringing the game to a 2-1 lead for Storm.  Malcolm Mcintosh assisted by Defenceman Nolan Dereski gave the team a bit of a cushion with another goal scored just 2 minutes left in the second.  The last 15 started with Storm up 3-1 but a strong duo from Drayton shuffled the deck, scoring two goals putting the game into Overtime.
It was anyone's game, however the one that went in was off the home team, past Cameron Plante who had made so many fantastic saves for the Saugeen Shores gang.  Storm loses 4-3 in a hard fought, much wanted game.  The team was hungry for a win, and despite the score gave a fantastic effort.  No reason to hang heads low after such a great game.  Congratulations.  We now wait to hear what's up next, but by all predictions, a few more wins are in our future!
