The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team travelled to Goderich on Wednesday night, Feb. 17th to take on the Goderich Sailors.

The Saugeen Shores team worked it hard all three periods. The determination of the two teams led to some seesaw action on the scoreboard with the Storm leading the way and the Sailors fighting back to keep the game close. The Goderich team benefitted from a call which gave them a penalty shot and they made good on it.  The Storm team thought that they had done enough to walk out with the win when they broke the tie late in the third to go up 4-3 with under one minute remaining. Unfortunately, the roller coaster ride was far from over for the Storm.  Goderich would take advantage of a faceoff deep in the offensive zone to launch one on net and tie up the game.  We’re off to overtime where the Storm team found their fortune take a decidely different turn after one of their players was clearly hauled down on a breakaway but no penalty shot was awarded, just the penalty.  During the ensuing power play, an errant play in the neutral zone by the Storm put the puck onto the stick of the Sailors top scorer and he wasted no time finding the back of the Storm net. The Sailors would walk out with the 5-4 victory.
The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team next met up with the Walkerton Capitals on Saturday, Feb. 20th at the Plex.  The Storm team came out strong and controlled the play early on.  Michael Fiegehen scored the first goal of the game, unassisted, during the first period.  The second and third periods provided lots of action for both teams as each took numerous penalties as both battled to find the back of the net.  The Charlebois/ Fiegehen/ Rickerby line worked well together to net the Storm’s two goals of the second period. Will Rickerby and Michael Fiegehen each scored one with Eric Charlebois providing the assist on both.  The Capitals managed to work their way onto the scoreboard late in the second period and early on in the third.  Now we have a 3-2 game.  However, Charlebois answered the call and continued to prove to be a force to contend with as he opened up the Storm scoring in the third period with an unassisted goal.  The Capitals rallied and added another one to their tally to keep the game close at 4-3 in favour of the Storm.  Both teams continued to work hard to generate scoring chances but it would be the Storm who would capitalize on their efforts. Nick Sutter-Lammie netted an unassisted goal at the 1:37 mark to give his team some insurance.  The Walkerton team pulled their goalie in the final minute to add the extra attacker but defensemen, Kelly Cobean and William Forsyth, paired up  to clear the zone and get the puck to Paul Leger  who broke out and beat the Capitals defense to slide one into the empty net.   Jacob Ackert put in a solid performance in net, using that glove hand to deny the Captials any more chances to come back.  The Storm would take this one, 6-3.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team finished off the week in style, swamping the Goderich Sailors , 10-0.  The Storm team was eager to get another crack at the Goderich team after suffering two heartbreaking losses in their last two meetings.  The Storm took charge of the gameplay from the first puck drop.  The forward lines had the Sailor team on their heels from the get go with some impressive cycling deep in the offensive zone and efficient puck movement through the neutral zone.  The defense was on fire as well, essentially shutting down any chance of quality offensive play from the Sailors.  Nick Sutter-Lammie, assisted by Thomas MacDonald and Murray Martin, scored two goals in the first period.  Eric Charlebois skated end to end and deftly worked his way around the Sailor defense to launch one past the Goderich netminder as well during first period action.  It was during the second period that the Storm players burst open the floodgates, racking up five more goals.  Each of the three lines made a contribution to the second period tally.  Charlebois netted his second of the game with Michael Fiegehen providing the assist.   Fiegehen, assisted by Will Rickerby, scored one of his own as well.  Justin Marlowe found the back of the net twice, assisted by defenseman, Kelly Cobean, on both.  Winger, Korey Thomas, got the second assist on one as well.  Nick Sutter-Lammie earned a hat trick with his third goal of the game coming as the second period was winding down.  Lammie was assisted by Cobean and Martin.  The Storm surge subsided only slightly in the third as the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team continued to dominate the play, adding two more goals to the final tally, despite having to kill off three penalties.  Korey Thomas, assisted by Marlowe and Paul Leger scored a short-handed goal early in the final period.  Fiegehen, assisted again by Rickerby, scored the final goal of the game.  Defensive pairings of Kent Ribey/Jack Middleton and Kelly Cobean/William Forsyth efficiently cleared the defensive zone and strongly held the blue line.  Jack Flarity earned a well deserved shut out in net with his admirable rebound control. Flarity’s hard work between the pipes denied the Sailors any points on the scoring opportunities that they managed to generate.

Next up for the Storm is a series of Away games throughout the coming week.
